Hello, September!
As the days become shorter and leaves start to fall, it’s the perfect time to harness that fresh, organizing energy and channel it into achieving your goals.
I’m Maya Gudka, and today, I’m sharing four actionable steps you can take today to engage powerfully with your September objectives and set a strong foundation for the rest of the year.
1. Mini Cleanse or Declutter
September’s organising vibe is like a golden window for resetting. Don’t worry; I’m not suggesting a massive overhaul. Instead, dedicate just five or ten minutes to a quick, symbolic declutter. Pick one area that could benefit from a little attention—your desk, a drawer, or even a section of your wardrobe. This micro-declutter isn’t about perfection; it’s about making space for your goals. It might be as simple as sorting through a pile of papers or refreshing your workspace to make it more inviting. This small act will create mental clarity and make room for your ambitions.
Examples:
Desk refresh: Tackle that pile of papers that’s been gathering dust. Sort through them, file what’s important, and recycle the rest. Add a personal touch with a new plant or candle to make your workspace more inspiring.
Wardrobe reorganisation: Switch out summer clothes (not that we needed many this year!) for autumn and winter items. Identify items you haven’t worn in the past year and take them to the charity shop to free up space and make it easier to find what you need.
Troublesome drawer: Clear out a cluttered drawer, like your kitchen junk drawer or a bathroom cabinet. Organise the contents into containers and discard expired or unused items.
2. Envision Your Success
Now that you’ve cleared some physical space, let’s dive into envisioning. Imagine yourself at the end of 2024, basking in the glow of accomplishment. Picture a setting where you’re celebrating your achievements—whether it’s a cosy gathering with loved ones or a quiet moment of self-reflection. What are you proud of? What have you accomplished? This exercise isn’t about detailed planning but about tapping into your dreams and aspirations. Use this vision to guide your actions and make your goals feel both exciting and achievable.
Examples:
Personal achievement: Picture yourself completing a significant fitness goal, like running a half-marathon or mastering a challenging yoga pose. Imagine the sense of accomplishment and the celebration that follows.
Professional milestone: Visualise yourself successfully launching a new project or receiving recognition at work. See the positive feedback and the satisfaction of achieving a long-term career goal.
Creative success: Envision the completion of a creative project, such as writing a book or creating a piece of art. Imagine the process of sharing your work with others and the pride you feel in your creation.
3. Connect and Commit
With your goals envisioned, it’s time to make them real. Reach out to someone who can hold you accountable or offer support. Share your goals with a friend, mentor, or partner. Putting your intentions out there, either on paper or verbally, makes them tangible and real. It’s also a great opportunity to re-engage with any communities or groups you’ve been part of, adding a layer of accountability and encouragement to your journey.
Examples:
Accountability partner: Share your goals with a friend and set up regular check-ins to discuss your progress. This could be for a fitness goal, a professional project, or a personal development objective.
Group re-engagement: Reconnect with a mastermind group or a professional network you’ve been part of. Share your current goals and seek advice or feedback from the group.
Public commitment: Post about your goals on social media or in a community forum where others can see and support your progress. This can provide an extra layer of motivation and accountability.
4. Invest in Your Goals
Finally, consider making an investment in your goals. It doesn’t have to be huge—perhaps a new notebook, some quality gear, or even a course that will help you on your path. This investment is a way of signalling to yourself that your goals are important and worth pursuing. It’s about creating an environment that supports and motivates you, even as the initial enthusiasm starts to wane.
Examples:
Gear up: Treat yourself to a set of high-quality pens for your writing project or a new pair of trainers for your fitness routine. Investing in tools that enhance your experience can make the process more enjoyable.
Educational investment: Enrol in an online course or workshop that will help you develop skills relevant to your goals. This could be a course on public speaking, a cooking class, or a workshop on digital marketing.
Expert support: Hire a coach or consultant who specialises in your area of interest. Whether it’s a business coach, a fitness trainer, or a creative mentor, expert guidance can provide valuable insights and keep you on track.
As we move through September, these steps will help you harness the seasonal energy and set a strong, purposeful course for your goals. So take a moment today to declutter, envision, connect, and invest. These small actions will set you up for a productive and fulfilling end to the year.
I’d love to hear how these steps work for you. Drop me a note on LinkedIn or share this post with someone who could use a boost in their September goal-setting. Here’s to a powerful and purposeful autumn!
