The Executive Power of Feng Shui: Transform your workspace for peak performance

As an executive coach, I see how workspace setup directly impacts leadership performance. In my latest podcast conversation with Classical Feng Shui Master Meena Jagpal-Paré, we tackled practical ways to optimise your workspace, whether you're in a corner office or open plan.

These aren't just aesthetic principles - they're proven techniques for enhancing focus, decision-making and executive presence. Here's what you need to know.

  1. Essential positioning principles

Position your desk with a solid wall behind you. As Meena explains, "It's like the energy saying, 'don't worry, I got your back.'" Never face your desk towards a wall - this creates a 'hitting a wall' energy in your work.

  1. Key elements to incorporate

Plants: Meena recommends a snake plant. It’s an energetic plant which purifies air, thrives in low light, and stays compact.

Crystals: Citrine is best for career advancement, while clear quartz helps with grounding and amplifying other crystals' properties, and is an ideal starter crystal.

Lighting: Avoid direct overhead light. Use softer lighting that keeps you alert without creating glare.

Design: Choose rounded corners over sharp edges for furniture and accessories.

Organisation: Keep only current projects visible. File everything else away.

  1. Maintaining a productive energy flow

Clear the energy in your space regularly:

    • Conduct a clearing during daylight (heavy energy prefers darkness)

    • Move clockwise from your front door with sage or sage essential oil in a diffuser

    • Open windows during clearing

  2. Open plan office solutions for when you can't control your space:

    • Use a grounding crystal

    • Try an earthing mat under your desk

    • Keep your immediate workspace clear

    • Focus on what you can control

Your quick implementation checklist

1. Assess your desk position - ensure you have solid support behind you

2. Add a snake plant or other low-maintenance greenery

3. Consider incorporating a citrine or clear quartz crystal

4. Evaluate your lighting and adjust for optimal energy

5. Regular energy clearing practices

6. Maintain clutter-free surfaces with only current projects visible

My executive clients report significant improvements in focus and decision-making after implementing these changes. Even small adjustments can transform how you show up as a leader.
